The Ballad Begins…
CHAPTER 1
His name was Cage.
They spoke of him in hushed whispers, behind cupped hands, beneath shadowy alcoves dripping with rain. He was more myth than monster, more monster than man. His name was a hex, a prayer, a blessing, a haunting.
But before he was more, he was just a boy.
A boy, and a demon.
A curse most of all.
Everyone sensed it. His danger. His beauty. They shirked from his metallic eyes, from his stormy irises churning with steel. They blinked at his hair, a mop of satin curls, midnight violet, a dead sun, dark enough to rob all light. And his skin, the iridescence of it, a sheen of stars and moons and galaxies in his freckles, in the pale canvas of his rangy arms and legs—it was unearthly. Unnatural.
He was a boy ripped from the pages of the universe and stamped into a book too small and too thin. Cosmic. Chaotic. A slice of raw, unpolished magic sculpted into a tiny skeleton.
He didn’t understand at first. How odd he was. How different. How strange. Why the other children didn’t feel as he did, with the breadth and depth of a fathomless ocean trench. When the sky had vomited him onto the schoolyard, a downpour of water and wind, he had smiled at his classmates.
They had screamed at him.
He was confused. Bewildered. Hysterical. He had been made for them by the gods beyond the stars, yet they treated him like a cancer, a plague. There was no reason to fear him—not then, anyway—yet they fled as if he were the first and last beast. A criminal. A villain. A flesh doll of violence and rage.
But he was just a boy.
A boy, and a demon.
A curse most of all.
Ohhhh, this is phenomenal! I cannot wait to read more!!!! 🔥🔥🔥
